Here are a few members of the team:
Rick Thau
Executive ChairmanMr. Thau is a self-employed consultant/mentor/advisor, and investor in early stage information technology companies and is Managing Director of Thaughtful Transitions. He has been a director of TWL Knowledge Group (TWLO:BB) since 2004. Mr. Thau served as Founder, Director, Chairman of the Board, and CEO of FullTime Software (formerly Qualix Group), a provider of software for network-based computing.
He led the company from conception to a successful IPO in 1997 and earned numerous awards including Inc 500, Silicon Valley Fast 50 (twice), Fast 100 Public and Private as well as National Technology 500. He also is the former CEO of Micro-MRP. From 1999 through 2008, Mr. Thau served as an executive-in-residence at InterWest Partner – a Menlo Park based Venture Capital firm.
Michael Mak
Chief Executive OfficerMichael is a new media entrepreneur and is the founder and inventor of bCODE. He led the founding team to develop bCODE’s product and technology from concept in 2004 to its first commercial deployment in Australia in 2007 and in the United States in 2008. Prior to bCODE, Michael developed and commercialized an enterprise mobile application which serviced major Australian enterprises such as Jetstar Airways, St George Bank, Telstra, Optus and Australia Post.
Before mobile, Michael founded Australia’s first free email service in 1997, and the world’s first purely web-based instant messaging service in 1998. The service became Australia’s most trafficked website by 1999, and powered British Telecom’s Genie service (now O2) in Germany and France, with more than 2.5 million users globally. This led to a successful acquisition by search engine Looksmart in 2000 (NASDAQ: LOOK).
Michael earned a Bachelor of Economics at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia, majoring in Actuarial Studies.
Sean Edmiston
Chief Operating OfficerSean has 15 years experience in building and deploying cutting edge technologies. Sean has held leadership positions in product development and operations in a number of Australian technology start-ups. He joined bCODE in 2005, and has led the R&D and operations of the company taking bCODE from prototype to successful international deployments. Prior to bCODE, Sean was the head of product development at SkyNetGlobal, Australia’s fastest growing telecommunications company in 2004.
Earlier in his career, Sean was the Product Development Manager for Pacific Solar, a $60MM joint venture between Pacific Power and University of New South Wales to commercialize a pioneering solar cell technology.
Sean holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, and is a University Medal Winner and Chancellor’s Scholarship Winner at the University of Sydney.
Art Wagner
Chief Marketing OfficerDuring a 20+ year career grounded in marketing and advertising management, Art has been responsible for well over $100 million in revenue working with Blue Chip brands: McDonald’s, Warner Bros., United Airlines, Anheuser Busch, Kraft, Citicorp, FedEx, Men’s Health, National Geographic, Playboy and others. Art was most recently a co-founder and CEO of Pharmacy TV Network, an out-of-home media company based in San Francisco California.
Art has been a repeat guest speaker at the University of California Berkeley’s Undergraduate Marketing Association and a featured speaker at the Strategy Institute’s "Digital Signage Content Strategies" conference.
Art earned his B.A. in Mass Communications from Winona State University and has successfully completed course work at Stanford University’s Strategic Decision and Risk Management certificate program.
Martin Haubek
Creative DirectorMartin has more than 17 years working experience in the I.T. and the media industry. He has worked as Creative Director, Producer and Designer in large organizations like LEGO (SPU-Darwin), Qantas, Australian Tourist Commission, Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), Modern Times Group (Viasat/TV3), Weblogics, and iTouch Australia.
Martin joined bCODE in 2005 and is working with creative concepts, design of the next generation of bCODE Readers, usability, application development, coordinating creative processes, bCODE branding and communication.
